The Town of Abu Qir is located on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, near the ruins of the ancient Canopus and to the northeast of Alexandria. The port expansion includes the northern and southern areas of the facility as well as newly acquired land. The project is scheduled across three phases over two years and will involve 223 million cubic meters of dredging works, along with excavation and backfill works using the latest construction methodologies and equipment. Once complete, the port will feature 9,800 lane meters of beach with 6,600 lane meters of submerged breakwaters, 11,900 lane meters of vertical breakwaters, and 2,400 lane meters of emerged breakwaters.

Part of the Egyptian government’s initiative to develop its seaports, the project will enable Abu Qir to receive deep-draught vessels and handle a significant increase in general and bulk containers. The megaproject will also create new land for the continued growth of Abu Qir.
