An independent department of the City of Oakland, the Port of Oakland stewards the city’s seaport and Oakland International Airport (OAK), as well as a variety of commercial real estate holdings along the waterfront, including the popular Jack London Square. Its 1,300-acre seaport features 4 marine terminals and 25 ship-to-shore cranes, serves 14 shipping lines, and moves more than 2 million TEUs every year, while the 2,600-acre OAK serves 13 airlines and connects more than 11 million passengers with 48 nonstop destinations annually.

The Port is undertaking a variety of Federally funded projects to maintain a state of good repair, achieve its goal of zero-emission operations by 2040, improve comfort for tenants and visitors, facilitate nearly $200 billion in annual economic activity, and reinforce its reputation as a vital hub for transit, shipping, economic, and recreational activities in the Bay Area. Project funding will come from multiple Federal agencies, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Through an on-call contract lasting until 2027, Hill is providing a full suite of construction management services to accomplish the Port’s construction objectives on Federally funded projects. The scope of Hill’s assignments may comprise new construction, renovations, rehabilitations, expansions, or emergency repairs within the Port’s aviation, maritime, or commercial environments. Hill’s approach is founded upon best practices and lessons learned developed during years of working with the Port. This includes a similar three-year, on-call contract providing construction management services for Federally funded projects from 2019 to 2022. The team will leverage this experience to plan, manage, and deliver the Port’s capital construction in a collaborative and efficient way. Hill will also leverage decades of experience on Federally funded projects to promote compliance with all funding requirements. In addition, Hill will use our scalable staffing and teaming approach to help assure the Port has access to the right level of technical expertise and management capacity, no matter what our project assignments entail.
