Hill provided project and construction management services to the Texas State University System (TSUS) for the construction of the new Health and Science Building at Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA).
The Health and Science Building is a state-of-the-art teaching and learning facility that supports the growth of LSCPA’s nursing, biology, and chemistry programs. The two-story, 56,000 GSF building features an “L” shape configuration that responds to its context on LSCPA’s campus. Other building features include classrooms with distant learning capabilities, a computer lab, and other learning spaces of multiple sizes to meet the needs of classes at different levels, clinical simulation spaces for nursing students, lab spaces, a faculty office suite, and student gathering space. The building’s comfortable, flexible, and functional spaces support different types of learning experiences and campus events to best support the college’s students academically and socially. In addition, the first floor is elevated approximately four feet above grade. As this facility sits only blocks from the Texas Gulf Coast, this provides protection against flooding.
Outside, the new Health and Science building features a two-story trellis canopy. In addition to serving as a signature entry to the facility, this canopy provides a much-needed plaza space for students and staff. Other exterior embellishments include a public art sculpture, landscaping, and a ground-level monument sign, helping establish the Health and Science Building as a vibrant front door to the entire LSCPA campus experience.
The Hill project and construction management team provided boots-on-the-ground support to TSUS for the entire project life cycle. After managing design and leading procurement, Hill supervised construction and provided cost, schedule, and quality controls to help promote the delivery of TSUS’s vision on time and within budget. Hill also implemented rigorous safety and environmental controls to protect the student experience throughout the rest of LSCPA’s campus during construction. Following construction, Hill supported commissioning, move coordination, and closeout activities.
