Project Value $750 million

Hill is providing construction management services to the MTA for the reconstruction of the Canarsie Tunnel in New York City, NY. The subway tunnel accommodates more than 225,000 daily commuters riding the L train under the East River connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. Hill is performing its support services as a subconsultant. Built in 1924, the 7,110 LF tunnel consists of 2, 1-track tubes constructed of cast iron and linear concrete. In 2012, the tubes were flooded with 7 million gallons of salt water from Superstorm Sandy, causing damage to the structure, tracks, lighting, cable ducts, communication cables, power cables, bench walls, signals, signal cables, and switches.

Hill’s management services will help return the tunnel to a state-of-good-repair and improve resiliency against future weather events.
