Project Value $1.6 billion

The Central Subway Program is a $1.6 billion project with construction contracts valued at over $900 million. The Central Subway will consist of construction of a new 1.7 mile subway that goes through San Francisco’s downtown and into Chinatown. The project will extend the T Third Line from the 4th Street Caltrain Station to Chinatown, providing a direct, rapid transit link from the Bayshore and Mission Bay areas to SoMa, Union Square and downtown. Four new stations will be built along the route. Tunnel boring machines will be used to construct the entire length of both tunnels. The tunnels will be approximately 8,300 LF and range from approximately 40 feet to 120 feet deep.

Hill is also providing program and project control services for the Central Subway, including cost/financial control, schedule control, document management and claims management support. The Hill project controls team functions in a staff augmentation roll and has performed a number of upgrades to the existing control systems used in managing the project.
