Case Study: The Isla Brown Chania

The five-star sea-view Isla Brown Chania is located in Stavros, Crete. To enhance the facilities and meet the increasing demands of guests, WH Europe undertook a comprehensive renovation and expansion project. The scope included renovations and upgrades to existing guest rooms, bungalow areas, common areas, and the hotel’s amenities, as well as the addition of new facilities, including a sea-view restaurant.

Working closely with WH Europe and the rest of the team, Hill provided a full suite of project management services to promote project success. This included the development and implementation of a detailed construction plan, a strong communication strategy, exceptional quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes, and post-construction indicators for client and end-user satisfaction.

The Hill team worked with the designer and contractor to develop a detailed construction plan, dividing the renovation and expansion into scope areas. This helped ensure timely completion and reduced impacts to operations, especially during Greece’s peak travel season. Hill also implemented a robust communications plan to promote coordination among the project team’s leaders. This helped the team align construction schedules with guest bookings and stakeholder events. Hill’s communication plan also helped keep all team members and stakeholders abreast of project progress and any risks. In addition, the Hill team helped implement strong QA/QC processes in accordance with industry best practices. This included materials certification and regular inspections to reduce the need for rework and promote high-quality craftsmanship in compliance with the client’s vision and design specifications.

With Hill’s management support, the project team delivered a more luxurious and immersive experience for guests on time and within budget, while safely maintaining operations throughout construction. Following construction, the Hill team conducted a post-occupancy evaluation and identified any issues and areas for improvement. Key measures of the project’s impact include an increase in occupancy rates after the renovation and expansion and positive reviews highlighting the resort’s upgraded facilities.
