Hill provided project and construction management services to Romgaz S.A., the largest natural gas producer and supplier in Romania, for the construction of a new combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant facility at the company’s Iernut power station (CTE Iernut). Located in the center of Transylvania at an important juncture on the nation’s energy grid, CTE Iernut required upgrades to increase the efficiency of its output, better comply with national environmental requirements, and enhance the safety of its operations.
The new CCGT power plant comprised four gas turbines, four heat recovery steam generators producing steam at three pressure levels, and two steam turbines for a total installed capacity of 430 MW. The CCGT power plant made CTE Iernut more efficient, reducing natural gas consumption, associated emissions, and power generation costs while increasing operational safety. The project also improved voltage stability throughout Romania’s National Energy System.
The Hill team leveraged years of experience delivering the infrastructure of change on infrastructure and energy projects in Romania to support the delivery of the new CCGT power plant in line with Romgaz’s cost, schedule, and quality expectations, as well as all relevant European Union and national requirements.
