Hill is overseeing the design and construction for Package 3 of the Riyadh Metro, currently one of the largest engineering projects in the world. Once complete, Riyadh Metro will be the largest public transport system in the Middle East with a metro network, a bus system, and other transport services. Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), the owner and operator of the system, is undertaking the project to fulfil the demands of Saudi Arabia’s growing population, reduce traffic congestion in the metropolis, and improve air quality for residents.

Package 3 consists of 3 rail lines in the Riyadh Metro system. This includes Line 4, Line 5, and Line 6 which will cover 67 km of track with 48 km of elevated alignment, 5.5 km of mined tunnel, 22 stations, and nearly 13 km of bored tunnel constructed through some of the most congested districts in Riyadh. Line 4 links to the King Khalid International Airport with a mix of elevated and at-grade sections. Line 5 will run in a bored tunnel along King Abdulaziz Street, between King Abdulaziz Historical Centre and the Riyadh Airbase. Line 6 runs in a half-ring from King Abdullah Financial District, passing by Iman Mohammed Bin Saud University and ending at Prince Saad Ibn Abdulrahman Al Awal Road.

Hill is responsible for the administration of the design-build contract and helping ensure the contractors meet ADA’s requirements to deliver a technically, functionally, and financially viable project, on time, within budget, and meeting the ADA/PMO technical requirements and quality standards. The team’s services cover design management, procurement, construction management, financial management, quality management, construction supervision, project controls, value engineering, and testing and commissioning. As the intermediary between ADA and the design-build contractors, Hill is also overseeing design and construction deliverables through the project life cycle and is using Aconex as the PMIS for the project.
