St. Regis Hotel Kazakhstan A Luxurious Reflection of History and Cultural Diversity

St. Regis Hotel, Kazakhstan: A Luxurious Reflection of History and Cultural Diversity

In 2017, the iconic St. Regis Hotel was inaugurated in Nur-Sultan, the capital city of Kazakhstan. Hill had been awarded a contract from MG Development to provide project and construction management services for the new hotel. Since its completion, the St. Regis has made its mark as a luxurious getaway with beautiful views, while setting a new standard for Kazakhstan’s real estate sector.

Situated on the banks of the Ishim River at Nur-Sultan’s most coveted address, the St. Regis Hotel proudly reflects Kazakhstan’s rich history and cultural diversity in the waters of the river. The hotel features 120 luxurious guest rooms, including 14 Ambassador Suites, 6 St. Regis Suites, 2 Royal Suites, and a Presidential Suite. The culinary offerings include La Rivière, the Grill at the St. Regis Nur-Sultan, and the St. Regis Bar with a cognac bar and library. The luxury leisure facilities include the Iridium Spa, an indoor swimming pool, and the St. Regis Athletic Club. The hotel also offers unrivaled event and meeting space for weddings and special celebrations, including the Astor Ballroom, Winter Garden, seven meeting rooms, and a business center.

The hotel and resort industry is somewhat unique from a developmental perspective. On most projects, the owner has a close working relationship with the hotel operator. Hill understands that stewarding this relationship is crucial to the success of a project—especially such a prestigious and iconic project as the St. Regis. This project involved a multi-disciplinary team comprised of 30 consultants and contractors from 9 different nationalities, along with local Kazakhstani professionals. Hill’s understanding of project needs coincided with the team’s previous experience and familiarity with the consultants and contractors. This enabled Hill to manage the work and mitigate risks, delivering the project successfully. By working closely with everyone involved, Hill helped make sure the goals for quality and sustainability set by the hotel operator were met. The result: an extraordinary addition to the hotel industry in Kazakhstan.

The extraordinary hotel has not gone unnoticed. The St. Regis Hotel has been associated with four prestigious awards. In 2018, the interior designers, WATG and Wimberly Interiors, were awarded with the Design Society’s International Designer of 2018 award. This award represents excellence and innovation within the design industry. It also reflects the elegant and effective style of the St. Regis. Announcing the award in a press from July 4, 2018, WATG has said that “the integrated design team used the hotels’ prominent location to inspire a design that highlights the distinct cultural heritage of Nur-Sultan. The design took a traditional, yet grand approach to luxury hotel design, using a hierarchy of spaces and forms to make the building an icon within the city scape.” The St. Regis has also garnered recognition as the Best Hotel Design in Asia, Kazakhstan’s Leading Hotel 2018, and the Leading Hotel Suite 2018 by World Travel Awards.

Now, Hill reminisces on the award-winning, 5-star hotel that brought a new level of luxury to the country. We remember the lessons learned from managing a diverse team with strict expectations for quality and sustainability. Thinking about the St. Regis makes us look forward to the time we can travel for leisure once again.
