Hill International overcame weather-related challenges to provide project and construction management services for the $180 million construction of the St. Regis Hotel and Residencies in Astana, Kazakhstan, which became the first hotel to achieve new security standards.
The St. Regis Hotel and Residences features 120 hotel rooms, 50 apartments, restaurants, commercial spaces, a luxury spa, and a winter garden. The Kazakhstani climate presents warm and rainy summers, followed by extremely cold winters, that can cause schedule and quality issues. Hill, which provided project management, construction management, planning and scheduling, and quality management services, overcame these challenges by developing a comprehensive schedule with workaround processes and a hands-on approach that allowed the team to stay on schedule and under budget.
Said Hill Vice President and Managing Director Turkey and CIS, Serdar Gucar, “This project presented our team with a number of unique challenges, however, we were able to address all issues to the expectations of our valued client. We look forward to taking the lessons learned and utilizing on future projects in the region.”
The St. Regis Hotel is the first to receive new LPCB security certification when piloted against SABRE, a security certification scheme for building assets by BRE Global. BRE Global, which incorporates LPCB and BREEAM, is an independent third-party approvals body offering certification of fire, security, and sustainability products and services.
SABRE is a standard that building owners can adopt to measure and evaluate how well they manage security risks and communicate their security credentials to the market.
